Energy efficiency and comfort of a building are directly related to the quality of its thermal envelope, even more so in the case of highly performing standards such as Net Zero and Passive House. This 4-hours intensive workshop illustrates optimal insulation levels for different climate conditions, considering cost-effectiveness and avoidance of mold and condensation. Thermal bridges represent weak points in the thermal envelope, possibly exposing the building to the risk of mold and condensation, while significantly increasing the energy bills for heating and cooling. The presentation covers the potential for “thermal bridge free” construction, using locally available methods and products. The guided calculation exercises during the presentation help participants understand the cost-effectiveness of insulation in different climate zones; results of thermal bridge analyses are illustrated, in relation to the risk of mold and/or condensation.
