Join the growing community of construction professionals, trained to use international best practices to cost-effectively implement Passive building standards in any climate.
Professional accreditation increases your credibility with clients and colleagues in the industry alike. After passing the exam, CPHTs are given membership and are listed in the database on the International Passive House Institute (PHI) website for 5 years. The exam is in-person, open book, and pass/fail. Upcoming exams in Denver are on September 12 and November 14th.
It’s ok. No one likes exams. But don’t worry, we got you.
You’ll be in and out in less than 3 hours. And throughout the preceding classroom and workshop days, we’ll make sure you know where to look in your text book and notes to help you along the way. That’s right…
The CPHT exam is open-book, pass/fail (at 50%).
This is because you’re not expected to memorize formulas or reference tables. You’re expected to understand WHAT you need to look up when red flags arise on the construction site.
Professionals armed with this knowledge often find that Passive building science guidelines inform decisions made in every other “sustainable” or “green” certification or building code requirement that exists.
The exam is a multiple choice, structured in three parts:
- Passive House Basics – 45 minutes
- Building Envelope – 45 minutes
- Building Services – 45 minutes
The first section, Passive House Basics, is required. Each participant may choose to take the exam specifically for Envelope, Services, or both. Exam regulations will be discussed during the Study Session on Day Four of the CPHT Course.
PHI exam dates
Exam dates are determined and set in advance by the international Passive House Institute in Germany. Usually, they fall around February, May, and November of each year. We will try to keep the most up to date information here, but please refer to PHI for official information.
