There is some confusion in North America about the Passive House standard resulting from a split several years ago between the International Passive House Institute (PHI), for which the local affiliate is NAPHN (North American Passive House Network), and the Passive House Institute U.S. (PHIUS).
We’ll try to address this more in the future, but the short version is that they are two different standards with different sets of procedures and requirements, both applicable to building in North America. Our experience from Italy has given us an opportunity to work with PHI quite a bit, and we are looking forward to exploring PHIUS now that we are based in the United States. Our work is always executed with the international standard as our benchmark.
